Marion Ellis Rowan 1848 – 1922 was one of Australia’s most gifted, prolific and highly decorated Floral Artist & Naturalist. Her name as an artist still resonates, the demand for her work from collectors stronger than ever. Producing over 3000 artworks in her lifetime, she also painted birds, insects, butterflies and landscapes using watercolor, oils, gouache and pen & ink. She was also gifted in detail, aesthetic, writing and storytelling.

Ellis was as celebrated for her alluring and captivating personality as she was for her gifts as an accomplished artist. A household name during her lifetime, she was famed throughout Australia. Although she travelled the world, her family home Derriweit Heights remained her most cherished touchstone. 

Coming in 2026 is the opportunity to step in to the world of Ellis Rowan -to find out more about her extensive accomplishments and extraordinary Life journey. For the first time in Derriweit's history, we will be offering a limited range of garden tours, open days and hire opportunities.
